Alan Shearer sends message to England team ahead of Six Nations opener

Football legend Alan Shearer has sent a powerful message to the England Rugby team ahead of their Six Nations opener against Scotland.

Following the airing of BBC 2’s documentary about Kevin Sinfield’s fundraising efforts for MND and Rob Burrow, Shearer sent a message to the team.

The BBC Breakfast production, Kevin Sinfield: Going the Extra Mile, will look back on his fundraising challenges, not least running 7 ultra-marathons in 7 days.

Sinfield has been raising money for charities helping people affected by motor neurone disease (MND), including his former Leeds Rhinos team mate Rob Burrow, who was diagnosed with the disease in 2019.

The new film will show never-before-seen footage as he runs through towns and cities across the UK. The programme also features some of the people living with MND who have been helped and supported by his work.

Taking to Twitter, Shearer wrote: “I hope those @EnglandRugby boys have watched the Kevin Sinfield doc on @BBCTwo@BBCiPlayer#inspration#legend.”

The football legends interest in the rugby team has been increased after his daughter began dating England international Joe Marchant, who starts for Steve Borthwick’s side on Saturday.

And Shearer had perfect reaction to his daughter dating England Rugby international.

Hollie Shearer and Harlequins star Marchant, who celebrated their one year anniversary together last week, are regarded as one of rugby’s newest power couples.

A singer, Hollie’s most successful tune, Leave Right Now, has clocked up 775,000 listens on Spotify.

That’s helped her accumulate 77,000 monthly listeners on the digital music service.

She describes herself on Instagram as “just a girl who wishes she lives in Nashville”.

Marchant, who has earned 13 caps in the past four years, heads to the Top 14 to join Stade Francais after nine years at The Stoop this summer.

Marchant came through the Quins academy and has made 140 appearances since his debut in 2014. Not many players have figured in every back-line position and also at hooker and open side flanker but he has done just that.

When asked about the romance, Alan, who is the record goalscorer in the Premier League and hometown club Newcastle United said: “I’m just glad it’s not a footballer,”

DID YOU KNOW? As well as is rugby achievements, Joe has a black belt in Wada Ryu Karate (2011), represented Hampshire in the discus, shot put and hammer (2010-12) and was an English Schools finalist in gymnastics in 2010.
