BREAKING: England set to confirm three-match tour of New Zealand to face All Blacks

Steve Borthwick’s first summer tour as England boss will be a box-office series against the All Blacks in 2024, a decade on from the national team’s previous trip to New Zealand.

The Times say Wales will face the Wallabies in what could be the last “traditional” summer tour, while England will travel to face New Zealand for the first time in a decade.

Meanwhile, Ireland will visit South Africa and Scotland are set for Tests in the Pacific Islands.

The newspaper also reports that France will head to Argentina and Italy will take on the United States and Canada.

With the Lions touring Australia in 2025 and the Nations Championship due to start in 2026, this could be the last time a full-strength England side goes on a traditional summer tour of the southern hemisphere.

The Nations Championship, if it does come in, would see teams play multiple nations across July and November in a league format, rather than a touring one

Steve Borthwick handed tough 2023 Rugby World Cup draw

The next tournament will be held in France and the hosts will face New Zealand in a blockbuster opening match in Saint-Denis.

Chile, Portugal and Tonga are the latest teams to qualify for the 2023 Rugby World Cup.

The finals work the same way as the 2019 tournament with the first two teams in each pool progressing to the quarter-finals, which will be contested by knock-out matches.

If we suppose the top-ranked teams each win their pools and the second-ranked teams finish runners-up then the quarter-finals in 2023 could look something like this…

  • Wales vs Argentina
  • South Africa vs France
  • England vs Australia
  • New Zealand vs Ireland

The 2023 tournament will take place between 8 September and 21 October 2023.

World Rugby chairman Sir Bill Beaumont said: “The draw is a key milestone on the journey to Rugby World Cup France 2023, and the time when the tournament truly comes to life for teams and players alike.

“It enables key operational elements to be undertaken such as venue allocation, optimal match schedule development and the ticketing programme.”
