BREAKING: Harlequins sign TWO Wales internationals

Firstly, Harlequins have confirmed the signing of Wales international prop Dillon Lewis from Cardiff Rugby ahead of the 2023/24 season.

The 27-year-old earned his 50th cap for Wales against France in this year’s Guinness Six Nations, and joins an experienced front row contingent at Harlequins supporting a strong contingent of Academy players establishing themselves into the 1st XV.

Commenting on his signing, Lewis said: “I am over the moon to have signed here and can’t wait to get going in the summer. I am looking forward to meeting the boys and playing at The Stoop”.

When asked around what he found attractive about joining Harlequins, Lewis responded: “Their brand of rugby and also seeing the culture and environment off the field as well. I’m excited to have the opportunity to work with Adam Jones and the likes of Joe Marler and Will Collier. I have big aspirations to improve as a player”.

Harlequins Scrum & Transition Coach Adam Jones, who briefly spent time at Cardiff Rugby with Lewis said: “I first saw him playing for the Cardiff Rugby Academy 8 years ago and I could immediately see that he was going to be a really good player.

“He joins a really talented pool of props at Harlequins and with great competition for places, they will push each other on.

“I look forward to welcoming Dillon in the summer and helping him develop his scrummaging to perform for Quins and Wales. Welcome to Harlequins Dillon!”

Harlequins make it two

Harlequins have confirmed that fly-half Jarrod Evans will join the Club this summer, joining compatriot Dillon Lewis from Cardiff Rugby.

Commenting on his signing, Jarrod Evans said: “I’m really looking forward to coming up here. It’s a massive club with a great style of play. One of the things that really attracted me was playing in this league and I am looking forward to challenging myself”.

Evans has several close acquaintances at Harlequins already, knowing Alex Dombrandt, Luke Northmore and Marcus Smith well. He noted: “They’ve got some really classy players here – I’m looking forward to get going with them”. Evans has also worked with several of the Harlequins coaching team previously, including Billy Millard, Danny Wilson and Adam Jones and concluded: “When we come up here, it will make the transition easier. I can’t wait to get going!”

Harlequins Attack Coach Nick Evans said: “We are all excited to welcome Jarrod into our environment to add to the talent we have in the fly-half stable. Jarrod is an extremely exciting player with attributes to add to the Quins identity and style”.

“Heavy heart” – Harlequins have confirmed SIX departures

Harlequins are poised to announce the departure of six players at the conclusion of the current season, including some key members of the squad.

Despite securing the signings of Joe Launchbury and Will Porter for the upcoming 2023/24 season, Quins may need to further reinforce their roster before the start of the new campaign.

Additionally, there is a pressing need for them to explore options to prolong the contract of Marcus Smith, the talented England fly-half.

Smith’s current contract is set to expire in 2024, and there have been reports of considerable interest from clubs overseas.

Below are the names of the six players who have already confirmed their exit from Twickenham Stoop this summer.

HARLEQUINS DEPARTURES:

#1. Aaron Morris (retiring)

The 28-year-old will be retiring at the end of the season, following a series of serious injuries which have seen him side-lined for much of the last two seasons.

Commenting on his departure, Morris said: “This has been a very difficult decision and made with a heavy heart. The last two seasons have been incredibly challenging as I have battled with multiple serious injuries, bringing both physical and emotional pain.

“It is time for me to find the joy that rugby once gave me in something else. Whilst my career is shorter than I would have liked, I retire proudly with Premiership winners medal and as a Junior World Champion. I want to thank the Club, my teammates, the supporters and my family for all their support. I hope I have made them proud”.

Harlequins Head Coach Tabai Matson said: “We will be sorry to see Aaron go. He has been desperately unlucky with injuries and while his career has been shorter than we all would have liked, he can feel very proud of his achievements in the Quarters.

“We are always sorry to see good men leave our club and Aaron’s departure will leave a massive hole. We wish him all the best for the future knowing with his capabilities he will transition successfully and will probably be an exemplar for other players”.
