Danny Cipriani picked in a team of the biggest flops to have played for England

HALFBACKS:

Fly-half: Danny Cipriani: After making his England debut in the 2008 Six Nations, Danny Cipriani appeared to have the rugby world at his feet. The then-21-year-old produced a magnificent display as England thumped Ireland 33-10; surely England had found the heir apparent for legend Jonny Wilkinson. Sadly this was not the case as controversy after controversy followed, meaning despite his incredible talent ,he accumulated just 16 caps.

Scrum-half: Shaun Perry: Much was made of the fact that Shaun Perry was an ex-welder when he burst into the limelight during an impressive season with Bristol, and it did make a charming rags-to-riches story.  But, let’s be honest, he never really looked accomplished in the England shirt. A poor performance against South Africa in the 2007 Rugby World Cup led to Perry being dropped from the 22 by England coach Brian Ashton. He never played again.

FRONT-ROW:

Prop: Darren Crompton: The Bristol prop was a solid bloke who anchored the Bristol scrum during that season where they finished 3rd in the Premiership, in 2006-07, and was rewarded with a call-up to the England squad for their tour to South Africa. However, Crompton was never the most mobile and since he was 34 when he made his bow in international colours, he was practically stationary by the time he put on the England shirt.

Hooker: David Paice

Prop: Paul Doran Jones :
Despite the good early promise in his career, he spent most of his time in England colours being turned upside down in the set-piece and being battered backwards in contact.
