Mercer is set to leave Kingsholm early, two years before the end of his contract, to join French Top 14 giants Toulon.

His decision comes after being overlooked for international selection by England head coach Steve Borthwick.

Chick, who has made over 130 appearances for the Falcons since joining their academy at age 12, was part of England’s 2016 World Rugby U20 Championship-winning side.

He has also earned two senior England caps against the USA and Canada, and featured in the 2022 match against the Barbarians.

The 26-year-old signed a new two-year deal with Newcastle in April 2023 but will be free to move to Gloucester next summer, with talks reportedly underway about a potential switch to the West Country.
