Noteworthy absences include Finn Russell, Blair Kinghorn, Ben White, Zander Fagerson, George Turner, Richie Gray, Grant Gilchrist, Jack Dempsey, and Darcy Graham.

Given the extended season that began with a World Cup training camp in May 2023, it was anticipated that several senior players would be given a rest.

RUCK reports that Finn Russell, similar to England back Elliot Daly, opted out due to the impending arrival of his second child.

The Scotland fly-half was cheered on from the stands throughput this season by his dedicated partner, Emma Canning.

Canning and Russell have been together for several years, though they briefly split in 2021 before rekindling their relationship.

She has over 20,000 Instagram followers, where she shares glimpses of her glamorous life with Russell.

Before moving to France and subsequently Bath, Canning was a promising track and field athlete, competing as a heptathlete for Scotland.

Last year, she posted a picture of herself and Russell, only to receive a troll’s comment saying, “Must be invigorating to know your only talent is to be in a relationship with a talented person.”

Canning quickly retorted, “Actually – there’s room for two Scottish athletes in our relationship. Lol,” accompanied by a video of her long jump competition.

The couple has one child, a daughter named Charlie, born in December 2022, and they are expecting another child soon.

DID YOU KNOW? Russell has been nicknamed ‘Russell the Muscle’ due to having a somewhat slender build for a modern-day rugby player, and has also been given the moniker ‘White Chocolate’ by teammate Simon Zebo
