Former Scotland captain Stuart Hogg arrives at court in handcuffs

Former Scotland rugby captain Stuart Hogg appeared in court in handcuffs on Tuesday, before being released on bail after his arrest for allegedly breaching previous bail conditions.

The 32-year-old is facing charges of domestic abuse and stalking, with allegations that he monitored his ex-wife’s movements, tracked her communications, and tried to exert control over family life between January 2017 and March 2023. Hogg has denied all charges.

He was due to stand trial at Jedburgh Sheriff Court on Tuesday, accused of causing his ex-wife, Gillian Hogg, “fear and alarm” during a seven-year period.

However, his arrest followed allegations that he contacted her in breach of his bail conditions. He now faces an additional charge of stalking and two charges of breaching bail.

Hogg denies the new allegations, and the trial for all charges is set to take place in November.
