“Highest Quality” Leinster Replace Former England Head Coach With World Cup Winning Springboks Coach

Leinster have announced the appointment of Springboks Head Coach Jacques Nienaber to their coaching team, following the 2023 Rugby World Cup. Neinaber will take over the role as Leinster’s Senior Coach, which is currently held by former England Head Coach Stuart Lancaster.

Jacques Nienaber has been the Head Coach of the South African national team since his promotion from Assistant Coach in 2020. Nienaber was Rassie Erasamus’ second-in-command, when the Springboks won the 2019 Rugby World Cup, after beating England 32-12 in the final.

Nienaber will see out his commitments with the Springboks for the upcoming Rugby World Cup. South Africa have a World Cup warm-up match against the All Blacks at Twickenham, and also face Home Nations sides Ireland and Scotland in Pool B.

Stuart Lancaster is leaving Dublin after sevens seasons, and will join up with Racing 92 in the French Top 14. Lancaster arrived at Leinster after his advocation from the England Head Coach position, as England failed to get passed the Pool stages, in the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

With Lancaster as Senior Coach, Leinster won the 2017/18 Champions Cup, which is their latest European title to date. He also oversaw Leinster recent dominance of the Pro 12 and United Rugby Championship, as the Dubliners won their domestic league competition for four consecutive seasons, from 2017/18 to 2020/21.
