We considered it an intriguing journey down memory lane to envision how the England XV would have shaped up if Eddie Jones had not been dismissed following the 2022 Autumn Internationals.
The Australian, currently leading the Wallabies, remained steadfast in his belief that he was assembling a team to contend at the 2023 Rugby World Cup.
Upon Jones’ departure, his successor Steve Borthwick essentially started afresh, parting ways with numerous seasoned stars, resetting the foundation for the national team.
Interestingly, five members of Jones’ last XV haven’t made an appearance under the new leadership. Furthermore, Jack Nowell, who held the position of vice-captain during Jones’ tenure, has also been deemed surplus to requirements.
While Jonny May enjoyed a favoured status with Jones, both Jonny Hill and Billy Vunipola have found themselves distanced from the national side, observing from afar.
Taking into account Jones’ final weeks in charge, we anticipate how England’s team would have appeared as they prepared for the World Cup.
