According to Rugby Football Union chief executive Bill Sweeney, the organization has not “sold out” by rebranding Twickenham as the Allianz Stadium in a sponsorship deal worth more than £100 million.

Twickenham, which has hosted England men’s games since 1909, will adopt the insurance company’s name starting in September. The 82,000-seat stadium also accommodates international women’s matches, key domestic games, community events, and music concerts.

“I really don’t believe we’ve sold out,” Sweeney stated. “It’s an iconic stadium, the home of rugby, where experiences are incredible and people love to come.

“We believe this partnership will enhance the legacy of the stadium, projecting it into the future. Allianz’s investment will allow us to improve the Twickenham experience for both fans and players.

“This is an investment into the future with the kind of partner we need for that journey.”

Stelling vehemently disagreed in his response.
