Joe Marler breaks silence on England snub and gives perfect response to Eddie Jones

Marler was left out of the England squad for the Autumn Nations Series and provided the perfect response to that omission when appearing on the Evening Standard podcast.

The England prop has put a future in the media into a higher gear, regularly appearing on celebrity game shows, presenting on Talk Sport and even starring as drag queen Trixie Turnover on ITV’s Queens For A Night.

Their relationship will have been further strained during the summer after Marler declared that Jones decision to replace 80-cap Danny Care after just 36 minutes during their summer tour of Australia ‘lacked respect’.

However, Marler believes the only reason he’s not in the current squad is because he’s ‘not playing well enough’.

“I’d still love to be able to go an play at the next World Cup. I’d love to do that and give it one more crack” said Marler.

“As has been mentioned by a couple of people at various times they compare Eddie to Gareth Southgate occasionally on his selection, and not picking conform, but picking on things.

“But, I’m not in the conversation became I’m not playing well enough. You’ve got Gengey (Ellis Genge), who’s now vice captain and huge influence on that pack and key to England’s attack and his defence, his physicality.

“And then you’ve got young, hungry, Bevan Rodd and Val Rapava-Ruskin, who you’d argue have been the form club loosehead.”
