England rugby legend Lawrence Dallaglio’s sister, Francesca, was among the approximately 130 people aboard the Marchioness on the River Thames in August 1989 for a party that lasted into the early hours.
This week marks 25 years since the tragic collision between the Marchioness and another vessel, which resulted in the deaths of 51 people.
A formal inquiry conducted in 2000 concluded that the “basic cause of the collision is clear. It was poor lookout on both vessels. Neither vessel saw the other in time to take action to avoid the collision.”

He wrote on Instagram: “This week marked 35 years since the Marchioness disaster took you. Mum fought for justice for you and the others who were taken, you would have been so proud (but also mortified of those jackets). She did it.
“There is not a day that goes by where you don’t remind me to keep going. You’d have been so proud of me, but also given me a kick a few times too!
“You were my ‘why’ Francesca, my driver, and most recently my reminder that we haven’t come this far to only come this far.
“My thoughts and love are with all the other families and friends impacted the disaster.”

Former Premiership outfit, Wasps, have set their sights on a Kent relocation and the construction of a brand-new stadium within the county.
The club’s recent bout with administration, which led to their exclusion from the Premiership a year ago, has prompted this bold move.
Should this ambitious plan announced last October come to fruition, it would mark the fifth location Wasps have called home. Their storied history has seen them predominantly based in two different areas of London, with subsequent moves to High Wycombe in 2002 and Coventry in 2014.
The club said in a statement: “The club is actively engaged with Sevenoaks District Council to identify a suitable location and ensure that the development meets both the needs of the club and the broader community.
“Building on the rich 156-year history of Wasps, this move signifies a new chapter in the club’s journey, reaffirming its commitment to professional rugby. In a statement on 17 October the club discussed its strategic journey since October 2022. Having faced significant challenges with regulation and funding, the club has persisted with its determination to revive Wasps at the highest possible level.
“As the development progresses through its planning stages, Wasps will be actively exploring temporary facilities to underpin its operations in Kent. Whilst determined to establish a base in the southeast of England, the club has also agreed an option of utilising Worcester Warriors’ Sixways ground for both training and playing purposes, without in anyway replacing Worcester Warriors RFC and indeed committed to assisting their return to competitive rugby.
“A Wasps spokesperson said: “The journey of Wasps has been one of passion, resilience, and commitment to the game. Our determination to secure a new, sustainable future for the club has never been stronger. By working with Sevenoaks District Council, we hope to build a long-lasting legacy that acknowledges our storied past and charts an ambitious future.”
