John Hawkins opened the scoring for the Falcons at The Stoop, but Quins responded with tries from Nathan Jibulu, Will Evans, and Leigh Halfpenny, taking a commanding 21-7 lead into half-time.

Will Porter crossed the line shortly after the break to seal the bonus point, while Ben Redshaw added a consolation try for Newcastle.

The Falcons have now suffered two defeats in their opening matches of the new Premiership campaign, continuing a winless streak that stretches back to last season.

Smith, despite not being known for his physicality, also produced arguably the tackle of the weekend in a standout all-round display.
