“New additions” – Steve Borthwick calls up two new players to his World Cup squad

England wing Anthony Watson has been ruled out of the Rugby World Cup in France with a calf injury.

England head coach Steve Borthwick says Watson picked up the injury during last weekend’s warm-up defeat by Ireland and will be out for a number of weeks.

Additionally, there have been reports indicating that Elliot Daly will not be able to participate in the Rugby World Cup due to an injury.

Currently, the specific details about the injury are not clear. However, Elliot Daly, a seasoned player from Saracens, had been chosen by head coach Borthwick as a valuable and versatile asset in the back line. Daly is also a skilled Lion with extensive experience.

This recent development of Daly’s injury adds to the ongoing upheaval England has experienced in the past 10 days. Notably, captain Owen Farrell and Billy Vunipola had received bans due to high tackle incidents.

Borthwick called up two:

#1. Jonny May

A product of the Gloucester Rugby Academy, Jonny May played 121 times for Gloucester Rugby before moving to Leicester Tigers in 2017.

He was back in the Cherry and White shirt before too long and returned to the club in 2020 where he now has over 150 appearances.

May has been a key part of Eddie Jones’ England set up and is the second highest try scorer for his country behind Rory Underwood. He played an integral role in England’s 2019 Rugby World Cup campaign which saw them reach the final of the competition.

He is considered by many to be one of the best wingers in world rugby and makes up part of an electric back three whenever he takes to the field for Gloucester Rugby.
