Toulon want to sign England lock Courtney Lawes at the end of his current deal

Retired England forward and Northampton Saints icon, Courtney Lawes, is making waves with his sensational performances, raising the possibility of a lucrative deal with Toulon.

Despite closing the chapter on his international rugby career, the 34-year-old continues to deliver performances at an elite level, showcasing his prowess in both the Premiership and Champions Cup post the Rugby World Cup.

With a surge in injuries to English back-rowers ahead of the Six Nations, Lawes’ appeal has skyrocketed. However, the seasoned player remains resolute in his retirement decision, even if he hasn’t ruled out taking a call from Borthwick.

“I’m just trying to do my thing,” Lawes said. “Being settled back at home makes everything quite a lot easier. I’m just enjoying my rugby and it is what it is, you know. I’m just trying to play well, play for the boys, and we dug in pretty well for each other.

“The job is not done yet. We’ve got pretty big ambitions this season, but it’s obviously a fantastic start and we couldn’t have done much better.”

In a potential twist, it seems Borthwick won’t be the only one longing for Courtney Lawes, whose contract is set to conclude at the end of this campaign.

Sources from RUCK indicate that Lawes, initially expressing a desire to remain a one-club player, has caught the attention of Toulon, who are eager to secure the powerhouse forward.

The three-time European champions, having bid farewell to Alun Wyn Jones recently, are actively seeking a versatile forward for the upcoming 2024/25 season.
