“True North Origin” – Newcastle Falcons Stars to Play Against Teammates in First Ever Derby

Newcastle Falcons have announced the first ever True North Origin fixture, which is set to take place at Kingston Park. In a Summer exhibition match ahead of the 2023/24 Gallagher Premiership season, the rulers of the ‘True North’ will be decided, as Falcons stars face off against one-another.

The Newcastle Falcons squad has been divided into four ‘regions’ for an exciting pre-season, in a ground-breaking move by newly appointed Head Coach Alex Codling. The summer-long competition sees the Falcons players split up, to represent the Northern counties of Cumbria, Durham, Northumberland and Tyne & Wear.

Each of the four groups are made up of players from or born in that region, and those international stars or Southerners who aren’t, are randomly allocated into a team to even out the proceedings. The True North Origin clash sees Northumberland and Tyne & Wear forming the North squad, whilst Cumbria and Durham make up the South side.

All-important Northern pride is on the line, in this fixture that is set to take place on Saturday August 12th. The match will kick-off at 11:00am, with Newcastle Falcons offering free entry (with the purchase of a free online ticket) to Kingston Park.
