Newcastle Falcons have announced the first ever True North Origin fixture, which is set to take place at Kingston Park. In a Summer exhibition match ahead of the 2023/24 Gallagher Premiership season, the rulers of the ‘True North’ will be decided, as Falcons stars face off against one-another.
The Newcastle Falcons squad has been divided into four ‘regions’ for an exciting pre-season, in a ground-breaking move by newly appointed Head Coach Alex Codling. The summer-long competition sees the Falcons players split up, to represent the Northern counties of Cumbria, Durham, Northumberland and Tyne & Wear.
Each of the four groups are made up of players from or born in that region, and those international stars or Southerners who arenβt, are randomly allocated into a team to even out the proceedings. The True North Origin clash sees Northumberland and Tyne & Wear forming the North squad, whilst Cumbria and Durham make up the South side.
All-important Northern pride is on the line, in this fixture that is set to take place on Saturday August 12th. The match will kick-off at 11:00am, with Newcastle Falcons offering free entry (with the purchase of a free online ticket) to Kingston Park.
